| This topic is a compilation of all hints mentioned in the forum. I did this to clean up the forum a little. It should be a little easier to find the stuff you need to know. Very well, so let's start, shall we? Original topic by Inuyasha22"General hints" - Quote :
- 1. Don't ever search the presence of human. It could be a hunter who's after your
skin and will shot you as soon as you're near enough. They're not even eatible, so you don't have a reason to do foolishness.
2. Use your senses. N is your nose which will give you direction and distance of living or dead prey, humans and their traps and other wolves. M is the map in your wolf's head which leads you to your den, water and carcasses to feed on. S let's you see what your wolf sees, which is pretty useful if you don't want to get killed by a shot out of a plane or helicopter.
3. Kill only if there's no other food around. This'll prevent your prey from dieing out leaving you only carcasses to live on. It can get messy if that happens, believe me.
4. If you fight too strong wolves too often you'll end up dead.
5. There are ways to change your wolf. Experiment a bit with a hexeditor, beginning with the name of your wolf. Soon you'll be able to change furcolour, rank and much more this way.
6. It's said that a wolf named FANFAN will be able to mate with a same-sexed alpha...
7. Fight only with packmates if they're a higher rank and weaker than you. It's cowardly but sure a way to stay alive and make little puppies with your alpha partner.
8. Keep an eye on your puppies' stats.. they lower slower than yours but if they go to 0 the pups will die on the spot.
9. Hunt only the weak animals. They're easier to kill, you'll need no packmate to do so and it doesn't wipe out the population of the preys.

- Careful! This only works with dosbox!
Press ALT+F12 to start that mode. You may release ALT, but keep F12 pressed. This'll make Dosbox skip frameskip. Voila, the game becomes as fast as it gets. Reduce the CPU cycles to raise the effect even more!

| "Auto-Pupping" Text edited by Inuyasha22, content is original by nova - Quote :
- Careful! This'll work, but it's unreliable. Many pups starved because the babysitter wasn't doing her job!
Requirements: - Have pups (obviously) - Be the mother of those
How to get the babysitter: - Lose a fight against the beta female. That one will become the new alpha and care for your pups.
Problems: - If the babysitter doesn't find food NEARBY (within the territory, that is), the wolf won't even feed your pups. All of them will starve if you don't feed them (including the babysitter who'll starve for sure).
- It's quite difficult (if not impossible) to reclaim your alpha status before your pups are grown up.

- It's easy...
When you scent a carcass, check your map with "M" and if it doesn't appear, it's obviously just a skeleton! Try it, I've tested it out and used it daily on my save game all the time! Sorry for the short thread, but just letting you know about this wonderful glitch :3

- I think I found a way to avoid dieing after digging up a trap. Once you see the clip of the wolf being caught in a trap end, immediately press the space bar to pull up the bottom options thing. This should work 99% of the time, and all that ends up happening is your wolf is a little injured. If you don't want to injure your wolf though, and your not annoyed to do it, you could of course just save your game and then dig it up to see what you can find, only reloading the game if your wolf is killed

| Original topic by Pondersit, WhiteWolf and Nightsong"Avoiding hunters and traps" Pondersit: - Quote :
- Traps look like a spot where you buried meat. I was playing one time and saw this mark in the scent view, and being a little hungry and also curious i went to it to dig up the mystery meat only to discover that i was caught in a trap and died. Later I discovered that your pack mates don't bury food. So whenever you see that 'buried meat' sign, and its not in a remembered place that YOU buried meat, Don't go anywhere near it in 0 miles (1 and 2 are OK).
WhiteWolf: - Quote :
- This isn't generally advisable, also, but it is worth mentioning that some buried-icon spots really DO just contain meat. Because the risk is death if you're wrong, I would not normally suggest you do this, but if you're imminently at risk of starving to death and the only thing close by is something buried, check it out just in case. I once avoided starvation in the Migrate Your Pack quest because I found buried meat which was able to sustain me until I'd located live prey and completed the mission.
NightSong: - Quote :
- If you have the sound on when you play and you hear the helicopters, use "see" to look for it before running. Otherwise you might run straight into it. IE: If the helicopter is east, I run north or south to avoid it.

- I was playing when a hunter came near my den. i went to auto play and my wolf ran away. the hunter walked right by my pups and didn't do anything to my pups. i thought for sure they would have been killed.
EDIT by Inuyasha22: Planes and helicopters don't kill pups either. Hunger and thirst do, though.

- I discovered by watching my mate, that you can drink/eat snow to relieve your thrist. When you are thristy, just stand on some snow, and push the drink button. This is really handy when you are far away from water, but need a drink

First Row: 4th Icon - What direction the wind is 5th Icon - Prey that is too far away to be exactly sure what prey it is
Second Row, 5th Icon - I don't believe that is gunsmoke. It is simply notifying you that you can smell something in that direction, but its too far away to tell what exactly it is
Third Row, 3rd Icon - It is possible to make an attack on prey. Prey is close enough to try and kill. May indicate weak prey, too.

- Yeah! Its possible! With this cheat you can like totally lose your fear for hunters, planes and choppers.
Try [b]arking when you're rolling after being shot.
It is a bug exploit and does show some comical messages at the scenario mode "You have successfully completed the scenario! foo died of a bullet wound."

| Original topic by Scarikas"How to determine skeletons from carcasses at a distance" - Quote :
- Do you get angry when you're really hungry and whatever carcass you find is just a skeleton? I found an easy glitch in WOLF to determine skeletons from carcasses from scenting distances.
It's easy, you just have to do two simple steps that require no hexing. In fact, all you have to do is press 2 buttons. It isn't a hack either.
1. Find a carcass scent by pressing N. 2. Press M to view water sources, your den, and carcasses. If the carcass you scented by pressing N doesn't show on the map squares when you press M, then it was just a skeleton.
Thanks for reading, I hope this helps!
P.S, Once again be reminded that this glitch was fixed on the version that has sound and better music. Also be reminded again that this needs no hexing or editing to acomplish.
